How to gather a child's test results into one history

In short: keep one folder for your child with everything in it: test results, reports, discharge summaries, vaccinations. Label the dates and keep the originals. It helps the paediatrician see how things have changed.

Where the results are

A child's results are often scattered: some in the clinic record, some in a lab's online account, some on paper at home. Gather everything in one place before documents get lost.

You can ask the paediatrician or the clinic's front desk for a copy of the record. Private labs usually keep results in an online account on their website: save them as files.

How to keep them

One folder per child works best, on paper or on your phone. Name files the same way every time: date, type of test, clinic. For example: “2026-03-12, complete blood count, children's clinic”.

Keep a separate list of vaccinations, long-term conditions and medicine allergies. They are asked about most often and are easy to forget in a hurry.

What to show the paediatrician

Normal ranges in children depend on age, so a single result says little on its own. Show the doctor past results: they show how your child is growing and how the values change.

If your child is often ill, note the dates, temperature and medicines. A short diary helps the doctor see a pattern that is hard to recall at the appointment.
